Audi D2 A8 4.2 V8 Timing Belt Tensioner VersionsLast Updated: 04/13/2017 | | Parts Group: Timing belt tensioner | While buying a timing belt replacement kit from Blauparts, we learned that they are commendably adamant that we determine whether we have the earlier version of the 40-valve 4.2 V8 engine. There is an important difference between A8 Quattro 4.2 V8 cars with a VIN up to a paticular value, vs. beyond.
After reading up about it some more on various websites, including the official Audi parts illustrations, we learned that for the A8 Quattro 4.2 V8, the cut-off VIN is 4D1010500, part-way through the 2001 production year.
There might well be other differences too, but one difference involves the timing belt tensioner, which Audi calls the clamping arm. The early engine uses part uses 077109485C. The later engine uses part uses 077109485E.
We don't sell this part in used condition. We strongly recommend you buy it new and replace it when you replace the timing belt.
